About Us

Akiyama Laboratory was established in 2011 in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, School of Creative Science and Engineering, Waseda University. The laboratory specializes in the seismic performance of concrete infrastructure structures, the development of next-generation earthquake-resilient structural systems, and the advancement of maintenance and service-life extension technologies.
Our laboratory conducts research to ensure the safety, reliability, and long-term performance of concrete infrastructure structures, as well as the road and railway networks that incorporate them. Japan is one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world, and in some regions, infrastructure is also exposed to extremely severe corrosive environments. To address these combined hazards, the laboratory pursues both experimental and analytical research aimed at improving the safety and extending the service life of concrete infrastructure structures and related infrastructure networks.
